The Senate has commenced investigation into the alleged embezzlement of about 328 billion naira approved since 2009 for the Presidential Amnesty Programme by the Federal Government.

Declaring open a two-day public hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senate President Bukola Saraki disclosed that anyone found to have embezzled funds meant for the amnesty programme would be recommended for prosecution.

About sixty five billion naira was budgeted for the amnesty programme in 2016 alone.
