The Nigerian army has confirmed the rescue of another Chibok schoolgirl, Maryam Ali Maiyanga. Maiyanga was among the more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Islamist militant group Boko Haram from their Chibok school in Nigeria’s north-east in 2014.
According to Army spokesman, Sani Usman, Maryam was discovered by troops in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area in Borno as they were screening escapees from Boko Haram’s base in the Sambisa forest on Saturday.
Last month, 21 of the abducted girls were released by Boko Haram following talks with the government brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government.
Maryam Ali Maiyanga, was found with her carrying a 10-month-old son.
