Seven senior judges arrested on allegations of corruption by the Nigerian Department of State Security have been suspended by the National Judicial Council.

NJC’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, said the decision was taken to avoid allowing persons under investigation preside over judicial matters.

The council had initially refused to suspend the judges, and there have been protests for and against their dismissals.
