The United Nations refugee agency says Cameroon has expelled more than 500 Nigerians who fled into the northern part of the country to escape the Boko Haram insurgency.

The agency urges the Cameroon government to offer asylum and respect international conventions against forced repatriation of asylum seekers.

As at last week, more than 61 000 Nigerian refugees were at the Minawao camp in northeast Cameroon, with many others outside the site.
