South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) has rejected calls to nationalise mines in the country.

The party, citing a new strategy policy-paper released on Sunday, said there will be a massive job loss.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has been proposing radical re-distribution of the economy and land to the black majority. Mines ownership has been part of the discussion.

The ANC said in a previous policy document in 2012, that it would not support nationalisation of mines, but the debate over the issue has intensified since the emergence of the EFF in 2013.
