The gem was unearth by a pastor who is one of the thousands who seek their fortunes in the informal mining sector in the country’s east.

The diamond which is one of the largest ever found was at first locked up in Sierra Leone’s central bank before being presented to president Ernest Bai Koroma.

President Koroma has promised that the huge stone would be sold in Sierra Leone with a transparent bidding process to the benefit of the community and the country.
