South Sudan has denied a report by the United Nations, accusing the government of buying weapons, while the country was experiencing famine.

South Sudan’s information minister, Michael Makuei Lueth, said the country has not bought arms for the last 2 to 3 years, even though there had been a plan to acquire weapons.

The information leak has led to the arrest of many military officers.

Years of civil war, a refugee crisis and a collapsing economy, have taken a toll on South Sudan, since it gained independence in 2011.
