The electoral commission in the Democratic Republic of Congo says rising unrest in the
country threatens to derail voter registration ahead of the high-stake election.

Head of the Commission, Corneille Nangaa says there have been repeated attacks in the central region of Kasai, where four Electoral Commission offices were set ablaze.

And the major spike of violence in Kasai since September, has left at least 400 people dead.

The Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace has called on Kinshasa to ensure “a calm atmosphere is maintained before, during and after the voter registration process”.

Under a power-sharing deal, the DRC is to hold an election by the end of 2017.
