United Nations has called for a coordinated international effort to help Kenya battle drought that threatens more than 4 million people.

The call was made by the organisation’s official Stephen O’Brien on Friday while visiting Bondarero, where arid, scrubby outskirts were dotted with shriveled cattle carcasses.

This is part of his tour to visit drought-afflicted parts of East Africa.

Already some 1.3 million Kenyans are going short of food as a result of years of inadequate rainfall.
