The United Nations Secretary-General is seeking an additional 320 police squad for the
peace keeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This comes as tension over long-delayed elections has caused violence to spread into new areas of the Central African country.

A Report by the UN says the December 31 power-sharing agreement reached by the DRC’s government and the opposition to hold presidential elections this year, has suffered a setback.

It added that additional police for the UN mission will help “keep the political process on track.”
