Western marine command intercepts 941 bags of rice

The Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 941 bags of 50kg parboiled rice and 66 kegs of premium motor spirit PMS with a Duty Paid Value of N11.6 million, that is $348,000.

Comptroller of the command, Mustapha Sarkin-Kebbi revealed that the items were intercepted along Badagry, Idiroko and Kebbi creeks in Lagos.

He explained that the seizures made within one month of his assumption of office is part of the renewed resolve of the Service to stamp out smuggling.

He vowed to stop smugglers who are bent on frustrating government’s current efforts at promoting local rice production.
