The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State gubernatorial election, Godwin Obaseki has accused the People’s Democratic and its flagbearer, Osagie ize-Iyamu of mobilising supporters to perpetrate violence.
The Godwin Obaseki Campaign Organisation, in a statement seen by TVC News, alleged that the PDP and Iyamu have been using social media and even word of mouth on the streets to urge supporters to engage in violent street protests.
“This call is an escalation of earlier threats to win the election at any cost,” the statement read.
“The protests that resulted in clashes with security operatives at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as results are being announced is part of this plot to destabilise the state because the outcome of election is not going in their favour.
“We have it on good authority that their next phase is to unleash the militants they imported into our dear state for the election.
“We therefore call on all the relevant security agencies and the people of Edo state to hold Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, his campaign organisation and the PDP responsible for any breach of the peace during and after the announcement of the election results.”
