The House of Representatives has resolved to meet some United States Congressmen and women to quicken the repatriation of the 458 million dollars, about one hundred and eighty billion naira, looted funds belonging to Nigeria which is being held by the United States of America.
The planned meeting will take place after the house has duly consulted with Nigeria’s Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami.
Moving the motion under urgent public importance, Representative Johnson Agbonayinma noted that United States held the money upon a forfeiture complaint filed in its district court by its state department of justice.
He said the complaint was granted for lack of credible claim by anyone against the assets.
Agbonayinma notes that while the United States department of justice has returned more than 168 million dollars belonging to other victim nations, it has held on to Nigeria’s four hundred and fifty eight million.
