The North East Development Commission bill on Thursday passed third reading in the Senate with a provision for a three percent funding from Value Added Tax collections across the federation among other financial sources.
Two contiguous states, Kano and Plateau were added as beneficiaries of the program.
But the VAT deduction has not gone down well with all senators representing Lagos in the Senate.
They argued at a press briefing immediately after the passage of the bill that it would be unfair to allow the Northeast to access such huge funds if Lagos state which generates majority of the taxes, is being denied access
to just one percent of federal funds to boost infrastructure in the former
