TVC N. General Manager Lagos State Traffic Management Authority ( LASTMA ), Bashir Braimah, has said thugs were seen fighting with LASTMA officials at Iponri area of Lagos because a commercial bus was impounded for allegedly violating traffic rules.
The incident which occurred on Wednesday, October 5, at 8.30 a.m left five of the officials and a bus driver injured.
It was gathered that the problem started when the bus, with plate number FST 290 XG, was impounded along Costain axis over illegal parking and was subsequently taken to Iponri office for booking.
One eye witness said that information spread that the driver had been beaten to death and a crowd gathered. Another eye witness said in a bid to retrieve his vehicle at all costs, the driver mobilised some hoodlums to attack and vandalise the office and the four officials were injured while others escaped unhurt.
Also, the driver was alleged to have stripped himself to create scene and draw the sympathy of the public. Simultaneously, his friends and some hoodlums put him in a wheelbarrow to cause further break down of law and order, but for the timely intervention of men of the Lagos State Environment and Special Offences (Task Force) that brought the situation under control.
Bashir Braimah, LASTMA General Manager in a statement said no life was lost in the incident, but that four of his men were injured.
