Militancy in the Niger Delta region would be drastically reduced, if seaports in the area are made economically viable.
These were the views of the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli as they received the executive management team of the Nigerian Ports Authority, during a courtesy visit.
The team was on its inspection tour of the Warri port facilities.
The executive management team of the Nigerian Ports Authority, led by the managing Director, Hadiza Bala-Usman arrived Asaba government house to seek collaboration from the State Government, before proceeding to inspect the Port facilities in Warri.
The NPA Managing Director told governor Ifeanyi Okowa why Warri port is strategic to the country’s port development master plan.
The Governor who underscored the importance of the Port, urged the NPA dredge the seaports in the region to boost shipping activities which will create needed employment.
At the Palace of the Olu of Warri, the monarch noted that the ports in the region were underutilized. He appealed to the NPA management to make Warri and Koko ports work. He added that it will be a solution to youth restiveness.
And as she has done on her other tours, Hadiza Bala-Usman re-echoed her determination to improve seaports operations in Nigeria.
