The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has destroyed substandard goods valuedat over 500 million naira.
The Director General of the standards agency, Osita Aboloma says the goods did not meet the required production standards.
At the dump site where the array of goods were to be destroyed, Aboloma said the action is to serve a stop notice to importers of substandard products.
Aboloma described the continued act of importing substandard goods as an economic sabotage, warning that the SON will be relentless in intercepting such cargoes.
The standards agency wants all importers to conform with its SONCAP certification by ensuring that all imported goods get the SON quality seal.
The alternative, as shown by the destruction, is bound to cause grief for erring importers.
