The Senate has demanded the immediate resignation and prosecution of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal over allegations of corruption in the disbursements of Northeast humanitarian funds.
This followed an interim report by the Senator Shehu Sani-led Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the Northeast that identified shady deals linked to companies allegedly owned by him.
The Senate also resolved that the Senate committee should also probe the over 127 billion dollars donated by humanitarian agencies to the rehabilitation committees set up by the Federal Government.
The committee had earlier investigated the Presidential Initiative on the Northeast (PINE) where it found that the entire procurement activities carried out by the body contravened the Federal Government’s Financial Rules and Regulations number 2948.
Senators further asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack SGF Lawal if he fails to resign.
