The Imo State Government has commenced the payment of over 30 months pension arrears to pensioners across the 27 Local Government Areas of the State.
Speaking with Journalists in Owerri, capital of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha said his administration has made available over 39 billion naira to off set all the pension accrued in the state.
The Governor also pleaded with the Accountant General of the state to ensure that the payment goes to rightful owners,adding that he will not tolerate situations where monies are paid to wrong people.
While given reasons for the delay in the payment of pensions, the Governor told the pensioners that by January 2017,his administration will begin to pay what other states in the Federation are paying to their pensioners irrespective of the amount.
