TVC N. Dr Yolanda N. George-David has said, if a man does not include his wife in his Will, then it should be regarded as invalid.  She made this statement during an interview segment with TVC Breakfast Show on the (30th of December 2016).

Widowhood can be described as the state or period of a widow or widower, it is necessary to note that naturally it is good to mourn once late husband but this can be done without subjecting the late man’s wife to torture and infringement on her fundamental human rights that can lead to her death

She went further to say: Widowhood practices highly occur in various communities in Nigeria each ethnic group has its own set of rules or behavior which are considered culturally appropriate however they may be detrimental to the widow’s health, financial position, and social status. Our cultural practices have made women beasts of burden in our society

Alice a widow who came to the studio admitted that widows in Africa are not regarded as a complete women that they are subjected to torture and torments.  She confirmed that most of the treatments are geared towards dehumanizing their victims which is always a painful and psychological experience that can affect the individual throughout her lifetime.
