The second edition of the #LagosCityMarathon2017 is underway in Lagos, the commercial capital city of west Africa.
Correspondent Solomon Ajuziogu reports that as many as 50,000 runners from across the world are currently taking part in the race.
They have come from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Africa, Europe, Asia, far and wide across the globe.
Their purpose is to win the 50,000 dollar top prize on offer at the Lagos City Marathon.
Standing between them and the prize are local athletes, more than tens of thousands of athletes and the grueling 42 kilometres from the Lagos National Stadium and the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.
Professional athletes are not the only ones who will be in the race.
The Lagos City Marathon is not just a competition to win the top prize as not everyone is running for the top prize. Some are doing so for the purpose of exercise.
The exercise kicked off at exactly 700hrs Nigerian time is expected to come to an end not later than 1400hrs.
