Export of the nation’s Liquefied Natural Gas may suffer a setback following an explosion on a section of the right of way housing two gas transmission pipelines.
The explosion occurred on Wednesday about three kilometres from Rumuji in Rivers state, the NLNG said in a statement signed by its General Manager, External Relations Division, Kudo Eresia-Eke
He said the underlying cause of the incident was yet to be determined. No injuries have been reported.
Other measures and engagements have also been initiated to ensure that the situation does not escalate as investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A seventh train is being planned at the NLNG, to increase the plant’s capacity.
The NLNG had said it was progressing with early site preparation work but was awaiting the Final Investment Decision from shareholders.
