The Federal Government has begun work on the first project lined up for the implementation of the United Nations Environmental Project, UNEP report on Ogoni Land.
The Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed Thursday performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the operational base of the clean up exercise in Rivers State.
This historical event in Bori Community of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State is the second of its kind since the implementation of the UNEP report was launched in June 2016.
Representative of Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike in his address expressed optimism that political differences would not stand in the way of a successful clean up exercise.
For her part, the environment minister urged community members to maintain peace in order to allow for uninterrupted clean up of all areas polluted by the oil spill.
The delegation also visited Kwawa Community in Khana LGA, which is one of the areas affected by the oil pollution.
