The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption has described the Senate’s action to withhold confirmation of 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners as childish and irresponsible.
Professor Itse Sagay says President Muhammadu Buhari will not be cowed by the senate’s action to ensure the sack of the Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.
Sagay added that the refusal to confirm the RECs was of no effect since officials of INEC had been acting as RECs for more than a year and the President could continue to appoint people in acting capacity where necessary.
The senate had on Tuesday protested against the retention of Magu as Acting Chairman of the EFCC despite the rejection of his nomination by the lawmakers.
