The Kenyan government has come up with a regulation approving the export of donkey meat.
Already Goldox abbatoir in Baringo County is reported to have increased the number of donkeys slaughtered each day to 300.
The abattoir also serves the local market – even though Kenyan law does not permit local consumption of the meat.
Trade in donkey skins is a million dollar industry while their hides are sought for medicinal purposes.
Kenya plans to export Donkey-hides and meat to China where the meat are delicacies just as hides are used for the production of Chinese traditional medicine.
It is also used for treating a variety of health conditions including bleeding, dizziness, insomnia and cough.
