The Queen of England has officially launched the Baton Relay for next year’s Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.
Joined by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, and their son, the Earl of Wessex, Prince Edward, at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, The Queen placed a special message into the Baton which will be read out at the Games’ Opening Ceremony on the 4th of April 2018.
Also present was the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, CGF, Louise Martin, Chairman, Gold Coast 2018, Peter Beattie and elder tribesmen of Yugambeh in the Gold Coast.
And West African country, Sierra Leone, will be the first destination for the baton as it begins the 388-day and 70 countries journey round the world.
