The Senate has described the Nigeria Customs’ policy on collection of duties on old vehicles as Retroactive!
Senators asked the customs to stop the policy, and also demanded the immediate resignation of Comptroller-General, Hameed Ali.
Our National Assembly Correspondent Sumner Sambo reports that Ali who was asked by the senate to appear at Wednesday’s plenary didn’t do so.
Customs CG Hameed Ali was scheduled to appear before Senate on Wednesday in uniform to answer questions on his earlier refusal to suspend the policy after intervention by the upper chamber.
But after a closed-door session, it was revealed that the Attorney General of the Federation had written to the Senate excusing the customs boss due to an ongoing court case.
But senators would have none of that.
They accused AGF Abubakar Malami of trying to stop the Senate from performing its constitutional duties.
They also passed a vote of no confidence in Customs boss, Hameed Ali, stating that he is unfit to hold public office.
They called for his immediate resignation.
The resolutions are also to be sent to the House of Representatives for concurrence so as to ensure that it becomes a National Assembly decision.
