The first day of official practice ahead of the 81st Masters has been curtailed by severe thunderstorms and even a tornado warning.

Only players who teed off before 8AM stood a chance of getting a full 18-hole practice round in as the adverse weather scuppered preparations for the first major of the year.

Play was initially suspended shortly before midday when the first storm front moved in, bringing thunder and lightning which forced tournament officials to evacuate players and patrons from the course.
