French President François Hollande has honoured the police officer killed in Paris last week in a sombre ceremony with a call for unity in the fight against terrorism.
Xavier Jugelé, was awarded the Legion of Honour, one of France’s highest honours.
In attendance were the two candidates to succeed Hollande– Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen.
37 year old, Jugele was killed with a Kalashnikov rifle while on duty on the Champs Elysées avenue last Thursday.
French police are currently holding Karim Cheurfi for the crime.
