The Super Eagles of Nigeria moved up one place from 41st to 40th in the latest FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body on Thursday.
The Eagles are now 5th in Africa.
The Nigerian team played a 1-all draw against Senegal in an international friendly in London in the last FIFA free window.
Egypt are now the highest ranked African team in 19th spot followed by Senegal who dropped two places to 30th.
African champions and Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualifying group opponents Cameroon, dropped a spot to 34th but fifth in Africa.
Meanwhile, Brazil are now number one, Argentina are in second position, world champions Germany are third.
Copa America holders Chile are 4th, Colombia come in 5th while, France are sixth.
Belgium, European champions Portugal, Swizerland and Spain complete the top ten.
