Security agents in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital have foiled what would have been a bloody clash between aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress who are dissatisfied with a purported list of caretaker council bosses released by the state government.
With their sonorous renditions they back the recent moves by the party leadership to restructure governance at the grassroots level.
Interestingly, the caretaker lists have not been released by the APC leadership in Oyo state, but the members are preempting its release, convinced that it runs contrary to their expectations.
The party leadership says it intends to spread the dividends of democracy round its members.
Many leaders have held elective positions for donkey years and the party leadership thinks it time to inject fresh blood into its fold, a move already causing bad blood.
Executive Assistant to the Governor on political matters craved for truce amongst the various interests. He emphasised that decisions made by the party leadership were in their interest.
The new caretaker list is still before the state legislature awaiting ratification. The state government has assured that the local council polls would hold this year.
