The Managing Director of BUA Sugar Refinery Limited, Ibrahim Yaro, says the firm which is the second largest sugar refinery in Sub-Saharan Africa, will invest N92billion, thats about $300m, in sugar production and refining in the country.
Yaro made this known when the Minister of State for Industry, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, visited Lafiaji Sugar Company in Kwara State.
His company is planning two million tonnes of sugar production annually, to help Nigeria become self-sufficient in sugar production for export.
He said there is over 20,000 hectares of arable land suitable for sugar cane plantation to serve the Nigerian market.
