Nigerian Government says General Electric, a global conglomerate, has emerged the bidder for narrow gauge railway concession in the country.
The government said the concession will see GE invest in excess of $2.2bn in the project that traverses almost the entire country.
According to the ministry of transportation, one trunk of the rail line starts from Lagos and goes through several states to Kano.
Another trunk starts from Port Harcourt and terminates in Maiduguri.
The ministry’s official said by the end of this year, GE would introduce 20 locomotives, about 200 coaches to move freight and passengers, thereby boosting more investments in the country.
