Internally Displaced Persons at a camp in New Kuchigoro- a suburb of Abuja- had cause to celebrate the children’s day.
They were visited by officers of the Nigerian navy who gave them relief material and provided free medical services.
Defence Correspondent Sifon Essien reports that the New Kuchingoro Camp is home to about 20,000 IDPs.
Many of them are victims of the season be insurgency in the northeast and herdsmen conflict in other parts of the country.
The Nigerian Navy seized the opportunity of the Children’s day celebration to give out relief materials to the IDPs. They also received free medical treatment.
The gesture by the Navy is to reduce their hardship and inspire the children to someday join the NAVY.
The event also coincides with the 61st anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
