TVC News Dooshima Abu reports that a specialised treatment centre for children infected with measles has been put up by Doctors without borders with about one hundred and seventeen children are being catered for.

According to a woman at the centre, there has been an outbreak of the disease in her community for five months now with no tangible efforts to intervene on part of government to contain the epidemic

Officials fear the situation could get worse if there is no urgent response from relevant authorities

Measles is a highly contagious infection caused by the measles virus and it is spread by those infected through coughs and sneezes

If not well treated, it could lead to inflammation of the brain, blindness and pneumonia.
