The Supreme court has upheld the election of Okezie Ikpeazu as Abia State Governor.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen who read the lead judgement held that Samson Ogah, does not have a case. He said the appeal lacked merit
On the issue of tax, the CJN held that, it wasn’t the duty of Ikpeazu to issue his tax, but the FIRS in Abia state
The lead judgment awarded a cost of 250,000 to be paid by Ogah to the second and third respondent .
Specifically the CJN described the case as a storm in a tea cup ,which ought not have been entertained in the first place.
The CJN also warned politicians to stay away from the judiciary. According to him, there has been security breach in the case and the court will investigate.
He said : “Why should the political class seek to interfere in the court’s business. Why should you want to blackmail the court. Know that if the court is not here there is no society.
“Politicians should just allow the judiciary to do its job. We will investigate how that breach came about in my time.
“The other time it was a senator who did it , a court staff was punished. But in my time whoever is involved will be punished too.”
For Alex Otti of APGA, the CJN, described him as an Interloper, who has no business with the case but for the interest of justice, was given room to be heard
