The Nigerian government says it has released about 375 million naira, or 1.2 million dollars to whistleblowers since its policy took effect.
The money will be paid to 20 Whistleblowers who provided information that led to the recovery of more than 11.6 billion naira. That’s about 37 million dollars.
This is the first set of payments under the whistleblower policy which guarantees payments of between 2.5 to 5 percent of all monies recovered, to the informant.
The finance ministry says all the payments are taxable and are only made upon confirmation of the final recovery of related assets.
