Rainstorm has destroyed about sixty houses and property worth millions of Naira in some communities of Akure, the capital of Ondo state.
The incident which occurred on Friday evening, left many of the victims in total shock.
It was a black Friday for some residents of Gaga community of Oke-Aro in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Many residents had retired home to rest without any sign of the looming disaster.
At about 5:30 in the evening, heavy downpour, accompanied by windstorm, wreaked havoc on the community, with about sixty houses affected.
While some of the houses were partially affected, many had their roofs completely blown off by the rainstorm which lasted for about two hours.
Electricity poles were not spared, as the incident threw the entire community into total darkness.
Mostly affected were houses belonging to aged people, who depend on charity for survival.
The churches in the area were also badly damaged, as their buildings collapsed.
The head of Gaga community, Oluwole Omotosho urged the government and other relevant agencies to assist the community with relief materials.
As the victims continue to count their losses, they look forward to assistance from any quarters to alleviate their suffering.
