Leaders of over three thousand legislative aides of federal lawmakers have protested non-payment of salaries and allowances by the National Assembly management.
According to the protesters, the non-payment of salaries and allowances has resulted in death of one of their member Hassan Abiodun, an aide to Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yusuf Lasun, who could not raise N165,000 to pay for his appendicitis operation.
The aides took their protest to the entrance of the Senate Chambers where they accosted Senate President, Bukola Saraki. The Senate President later mandated his Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Gbenga Makanjuola to listen to them.
The representative of the Senate President assured them that he would write a memo to the Saraki that would take care of all their grievances.
The protesting members are seeking constant payment of salaries, removal from Suntrust bank and ability to conduct their elections without interference of the management of the National Assembly.
