The Federal Government has appealed to the Senate to urgently consider its request for loan approval for railway projects meant for the entire country as other African countries are in vigorous competition for the sixty billion US dollar loans that China is offering to Africa.
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi made the appeal at a Senate hearing and debunked allegations by some senators that the southeast region of Nigeria is excluded from railway modernization program.
Amaechi debunks the allegations describing such as political rhetoric from opposition politicians.
Minister Amaechi says Nigeria must make haste to assess the loan from Chinese authorities as other African countries are competing for the same low-interest loans.
And after a breakdown of Nigeria’s railways modernisation program using a powerpoint presentation, the issue turned into a political argument between the accuser and the accused.
The minister was invited to explain the technical details of the rail projects across Nigeria which the committee said the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun could not answer when she appeared due to the technicalities involved.
