Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria have converged on the state secretariat to protest against the recent agitation on Local Autonomy by local government employees in the country.
The protesters say they stand against the move.
Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, the state secretary, Haruna Ilallah said the autonomy when given to the local government councils would hinder the smooth payment of teachers’ salaries in the state.
He added that the union is agitating for a body that would provide enabling environment for teachers in the country.
The Kano NUT members stormed major highways carrying placards and singing solidarity songs in the state.
