Hellen Obiri of Kenya won the 5000m at the Rome Diamond League with a record time of 14 minutes:18.37 seconds.
Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba the reigning 1500m world-record holder, was expected to win the race but she was left trailing by fellow East African Obiri who won the race with 5th fastest time in history.
The women’s 100 metres was won by Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers in 10.99
seconds.
Canadian Andre de Grasse took the men’s 200m, his first Diamond League victory of 2017.
De Grasse, billed as the top challenger to Usain Bolt, impressively pulled away in 20.01 seconds.
