The Senate has passed a resolution asking the presidency to urgently re-present to it, recommendations of the 2014 National Conference so it can look into it and introduce laws that would reduce agitations for secession and restructuring.
The decision followed a motion aimed at reaffirming Nigeria’s unity through means that would guarantee security, fairness and justice.
The motion was moved by Senate majority leader, Ahmad Lawan and co-sponsored by all senators in the eight Senate following the resurgence of separatist agitations.
The Senators took time to encourage Nigerians not to give up on the country saying what unites the country is greater than what divides it.
The Senate urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those making incendiary statements that may lead to chaos even as they called for the 2014 confab report to be resent to the National Assembly for consideration.
The Senators also pledged to go back to their senatorial districts to preach peace.
