As controversy rages on concerning government’s true intentions on checking hate speech, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says there are no plans to muzzle the citizenry and media.
Lai Mohammed visited TVC News, where he cleared the air over the rumoured gagging of the press and the military clampdown on speech.
Addressing the editorial staff, the minister cleared the air on utterances attributed to the military concerning the monitoring of social media for hate speeches.
Mohammed also put to rest fears of impending sanctions by the National broadcasting commission following a directive by the Federal Government on hate speeches.
On the economy, the minister noted that the APC-led government is doing all it can to grow the non oil sector as a vehicle for improving the economy.
The minister lauded the efforts of the station in providing responsible journalism and urged the editorial team to continue to adhere to the broadcasting code.
