The U.S. Missile Defense Agency and the Navy have successfully conducted a missile defense test off the coast of Hawaii.
The test, which had been scheduled in advance, was done on Tuesday, the day North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan.
Using Standard Missile-6 guided missiles, the test had intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile target.
The US Missile Defence Agency says the test gives the naval component of the missile defense system higher ability to intercept ballistic missiles in their terminal phase.
A man with a high-powered rifle, fatally shot a policeman at a hotel in Sacramento, California, and wounded two other officers.
Spokesman of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Tony Turnbull, says the officers were searching for a suspected car thief, when the shooting occurred.
The California highway patrol officers had knocked on the door of a room in a Ramada Inn, when someone inside fired through the door and walls.
After exchanging gunfire with officers, the suspect got into a car and drove away from the hotel with police in pursuit.
He later crashed the car and again exchanged fire with police, before he was struck by gunfire and arrested.
