The President of France, Emmanuel Macron and the President of the International Olympic Committee, IOC, Thomas Bach have visited Marseille’s nautical Olympic sites after Paris was confirmed as the 2024 Summer Games host.
Paris, which has hosted 2 previous Olympics, will stage the event 100 years after its last Games in 1924.
The Paris 2024 Bid Committee chose the Mediterranean port city to host the Olympics’ sailing events ahead of five other candidates cities, Le Havre, La Rochelle, Brest, Hyeres and Quiberon.
Marseille is no stranger to hosting sporting events, with matches during the 1998 soccer World Cup and the 2016 European soccer championships taking place in the city.
The IOC also allocated the 2028 Olympics to the U.S. city of Los Angeles.
