The Lagos state Government has begun sensitisation of residents on the new Environmental Law and Cleaner Lagos Initiative.
It was flagged off at Yaba LCDA on Thursday. Special Adviser, Office of Civic Engagement, Kehinde Joseph says the policy was to eliminate the deficiencies observed in the previous approach to waste management, particularly the area of solid waste collection.
The new law will harmonise all existing environment laws and make its management more effective especially in the area of enforcement and compliance.
Joseph also allayed the fears of the previous waste management operators that the new approach will adequately accommodate them.
