The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has earmarked 50 million naira worth of scholarship to provide access to quality education to the less privileged and vulnerable children.
The scholarship programme which is in three phases will afford students of secondary schools in the southwest region to compete where the 20 outstanding students will be awarded the scholarship.
The project Coordinator, Ayobami Olojede said the programme is to help such students achieve their academic goals and as well serve as a means of promoting unity and good relationship among southwest people.
According to him, the initiative is designed to ensure that learning at all levels increases thereby giving room for brilliant students to have free education to the university level.
Olojede maintained that culture of professional counselling support and vocational training will also be part of the initiative towards taking many youths off the street.
While the request was approved by the lawmakers, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, said members of the panel would be announced later in the day.
