The Federal Executive Council has approved the sum of N5.6billion, for the third quarter soil erosion controlled accelerated intervention, for the six geopolitical zones in the country.
The benefiting states are Kano, Bayelsa, Sokoto, Ondo, Osun and Enugu state.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this at a briefing after the meeting in Abuja.
Nigerians have described Soil Erosion as an Ecological, Environmental, Economic and human disaster that has affected communities but with this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting presided by President Muhammadu
Buhari, succour has come to states whose communities have been affected by soil erosion.
Agriculture Minister, Audu Ogbe also briefed Journalists, that the Federal Cabinet approved the sum of 165 million Naira for the procurement of foundation seeds for maize at the Institute of Agricultural Research in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
He said the move will help boost the yield of the crop, which currently is one of the lowest globally.
Ogbeh also disclosed that council discussed the menace of food smuggling along unauthorised and illegal routes in the country, saying that 5 billion dollars was being lost to smugglers by the country, annually.
Minister of State for Aviation Hadi Sirika said the Council also approved a Bilateral Air Services Agreement, BASA, between Nigeria and Canada.
He said the agreement will further enhance cordial relationship between the two countries and their citizens as well as open up the business horizon in Nigeria and Canada.
