The operational commander of Gulak military base, Captain Isa Abdulkadir Musa has confirmed the death of a soldier and a civilian in the recent gun battle with Boko Haram fighters in the town.
Speaking during an on-the-spot assessment by a delegation of the state government led by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Ahmad Sajoh, Captain Musa disclosed that the joint efforts of military personnel and local hunters ensured the defeat of the terrorist group.
Owolabi Adenusi reports that the delegation assured the people of government’s commitment to the security of lives and property.
Sajoh said the delegation would access damage done to properties during the encounter and recommend how to assist and rehabilitate victims .
Briefing the delegation, the unit commander said the insurgents stormed the town with heavy weapons including a car laden with explosive devices, which they detonated at a major check point in the town, killing a soldier in the process.
Musa praised local hunters and vigilantes who joined the military in repelling the insurgents.
Member representing Madagali constituency, Emmanuel Tsamdu, chairman of Madagali Council, Yusuf Mohammed and the District Head of Gulak, Alhaji Bello Ijadi, lauded the government for its concern and support to
the people of Gulak.
They called for the deployment of more soldiers in the area to stem incessant attacks on the town due to its closeness to the Sambisa Forest.
Some of the victims of the attack who shared their experiences with TVC NEWS, called on the federal government to come to their aid.
For now, residents of Gulak have put the attack behind them. Indeed major markets in the town have since reopened for business.
